Is there a 3D rotate?

3D rotate tool - does it exist?
TBC could have a 3D rotate tool like all 3D CAD packages. But I have not found it. Entities drawn on a vertical cutting plane cannot be output as a flat 2D CAD file because they remain vertical and there is no way to flip them to horizontal, within TBC.  Interestingly, I can use the "mirror" command to flip it 180 degrees in 3D about any line, but can't 3D rotate by a known angle e.g. 90 degrees around a line?
The Transform by points command seems to be the likely candidate but any rotation is just done perpendicular to plan view (in horizontal plane) only.
Is 3D rotate possible @Alan Sharp?
It's pretty basic functionality so I feel like I must have missed something.
There don't seem to be any posts on here about it either!
    Thanks in advance

If you are in a 3D view window you can rotate 3D by either holding down the middle mouse button or holding down CTRL button and holding down the right mouse button. Is this what you are trying to do?

Hi Robert, Thank you for your answer and I'm sorry if it wasn't clear. What I'm referring to , is being able to rotate an entity, block or set of lines etc in 3D, about a known axis.  This axis might not be the Z axis (AKA normal rotate tool)  but instead an arbitrary axis of an existing line. For example if you had an reference line and wished to rotate some data from the vertical plane to the horizontal plane, about that line.

Copy to profile will rotate a set of lines from plan to Profile view and the convert cad sections will convert plan data to stored sections - in both cases you can plot from the profile or sections. But if you have 3D data drawn in a UCS / Cutting Plane and you want to rotate about the axis of the cutting plane to make the data 2D so you can plot it using Plan Plotting would need an additional tool - we don’t have that today but as you say is very possible

Will see if we can find a solution

What are you trying to rotate into a flat plane and for what purpose - maybe I can come up with something if I know what you are trying to achieve - I hear Cutting Plane - so I guess you are drawing something in the Cutting Plane which means that you are giving it a UCS which further complicates things of course - but if you can explain what you are doing more than the specific function that you need we may be able to give you some type of workflow that works

    Hi Alan

    Best illustrated with an example

You will see the detail projected onto the desired reference plane and as such then 3D rotated about the line in order that one can export it to 2D flat CAD from TBC.

I didn't produce this in TBC in case you were wondering... but it would be nice to be able to do so which of course requires a 3D rotate command...

I would have to check this Ben but for sure draw with polylines in cutting plane cues not linestrings as polylines are 2D lines that have a constant z and in cutting plane the constant z is the plane itself whereas linestrings are 3D and allow snapping to objects beyond the cutting plane on either side of the plane so will not give you what you want.

You are likely correct that Ortho Snaps we’re defined for Plan View and when the Cutting Plane was created maybe the Geospatial team did not plumb in all the snaps - I would have to check that to verify - but you will have more success with polylines than with linestrings
