    How to get the 3D Surface Area in Trimble Business Center , Projected Surface created from Trimble SX10 Point Cloud

    You should create planar surface if its not too much sloped (not vertical). Then use Surface Information Report for that surface. Once it is generated, it will show You something like:

    Planimetric surface area:

    3.1 m²

    Actual surface area:

    10.3 m²

    and info could be splited into rows by different slopes. In some situations it will help (i think). Most TBC tools will not work with Projected Surface. Help file mentioned Takeoff Report for surface area calculations, but it's not under survey license, so i never seen it action.

    To calculate the 3D surface area in TBC I have tried the Surface Information report which shows Total Surface Area.

     

     

     

    But the problem is the surface created in TBC is not to the shape of the Point Cloud it have some Gaps in the Surface and shows the 3D surface area much higher than the Surface area calculated in Civil 3D software

    Hi Srinivas,

     

    Currently TBC cannot create a Surface Information Report for a projected surface. It is on our enhancement list of features to add to TBC.

     

    As a workaround currently, you can use the Georeference command on the Point Cloud ribbon to transform the point cloud so your current projected surface normal vector aligns with the Z axis and a normal surface will be identical to your projected surface. Then TBC will provide all of the Surface Information.

    For what purpose do you need to calculate the total surface area? I'm curious.

    The Customer bought Trimble SX10 , they are having the project in Oman for calculation of 3D surface area of Hill Meshing for cross checking the Billing of a Contractors
