I have these two surfaces : 1) RA2 Merged and 2) SBDOGL.

I have a Horizontal Alignment. CL 0-75200.

I need to generate Cross Sections at 10m intervals and publish them as AutoCAD files.

Could some one help.

Create a Corridor

Add the surfaces either as Original Ground to the Corridor oras Surface Instructions in the Corridor. If you want Materials shaded then for each Surface you add after Finished Grade add the Material Above the Surface to the Surface Instruction.

Now you can import your Drafting Template (from the Sheet Layout / Drafting Menus. USe the A(X) (A0 etc) sheet size you want - the ones with the names like A0 Plansert (ENG) are all set up for Cross Section Plotting

Once you have the Planset in the project (Drag and Drop from the Drafting Template folder (the files are VCL files - the folder is opened when you run the Drafting templates Command.

In Project Explorer you will find the Plansets. Open the Plan Set and you will find Sheet Sets. In the Sheet Sets you will find one called Cross Sections. Right click the Sheet Set and select Edit / or go to Properties Pane and select the Corridor Model that you want to use for the Cross Sections. This will link the Sheet Set to the Corridor Model and will auto generate the Cross Sections. In the Edit function you can play with the settings if not exactly as you need them. Once happy with the look of your Sections then you can right click the Sheet Set in Project Explorer and select "Build Sheets" to generate the Sheets of Cross Sections as per the last look of the Editor. The Sheets are built under the Sheet Set and you can review them to make sure that they are as you need them. You can also annotate them if you want to in the Sheet View.

Once you are happy with the Sheets you can Print PDF Plan Set and then select the Sheet Set and send the Drawings to a PDF File.

Note the Drafting template is populated with data from the Project Settings (Company Information, User Information etc. You update the Project Settings and this updates the text on all drawings. You can also replace the Company Logo wth your own Logo - there is a file in the Drafting Templates Folder called Your Logo Goes Here (V).png - simply switch your logo for that file and maintain the name - the logo will then be replaced. Your Logo should be less than 400 pixels Wide and 200 Pixels High to simply replace the one that is there. Use Microsoft paint to Resize the Logo before switching it out. The Logo will be replaced when you restart the project.

Can you only see Corridor Surfaces in the Create Cross Sections command?

I would like to print some cross sections of several surfaces I have similar to the way it looks in the Surface Slicer. When I am in the Create Cross Sections window the only surface that shows up is Original Ground.

The surfaces have to be at least referenced to the Corridor Model as

reference Surfaces for them to be printable in the Cross Sections output

function. Go to the Corridor Model in the project Explorer, find the

Corridor (not the template or the corridor surface) and right click and

select Edit - then add the surfaces you want to plot as reference Surfaces.

Then go back to the Cross Sections plotting and tap refresh (or close and

reopen to Refresh the Surfaces lists) and then you can select the ones you

want to print and how yiu want them to appear (Color, Lineweight etc.)

Hi Alan,

is it any way of exporting a key plan with all cross section locations to CAD?

It is great that using your template we are able to export XS, but they are not visible on the plan view window.

Our client needs to get an overview 2D plan...

Are you using a fixed Interval or a Fixed Interval and Random Locations? If a fixed interval - what do you need - just a Line at Right angles to the centerline at each location / interval where the sections are placed? The simplest way to do that is to use the Alignment labeling tool - you may want to create a copy of the alignment on a new layer and then use the Alignment Labeling to create Lines with Station Numbers along it or just the lines at the interval locations. If you have some random locations also then you would likely have to create lines at those locations manually today at least.

I tried this approach this morning to see how well it worked - Is this kind of what you are looking for?

I used the Station Equation function to generate the Random Location Sections - Enter the Station where the sections are as Back = Station and Ahead = Same Station and that will generate you the labels at those locations.

The Station Equations only label one side so you have to use Extend Line by Distance to make it extend to the Left and right Side. The Intervals can be labeled perpendicular or Tangent to the alignment in the settings to get the desired effect - and they can be labeled Left or Right or Inside / Outside of Cures as you see fit.

To Get the 0 Station and End Station you have to label the HAL Points and then delete those that you do not need after creating them.

Bear in mind that the Alignment Labels are a Dynamic Object that if you refresh them they will be recreated - so I would create a copy alignment on my Sections Locations layer to do this and label that for this purpose only, and then make sure that I never refresh it - You can set the properties of the Alignment Labels (Displayed under the Alignment n Project Explorer) to Rebuild Method = By User if you want to put a lock on them so that you do not refresh by accident etc..

You can then use this Alignment and the Ammended Labels to generate the drawing that you need. You can delete Labels if you don't need them etc.
