What is the small red exclamation dot next to FG corridor surface?

  • 1.  What is the small red exclamation dot next to FG corridor surface?

    Posted 03-24-2020 12:09

    I am about halfway through a rather large corridor project. I glanced over at my surfaces listed under my corridor and found that my final grade surface appears to be a different symbol than all other material surfaces as well as it is showing a small red dot with a white exclamation point inside. Can anyone tell me why;

    -   Finish Grade Surface would have a different symbol?

    -   Red Exclamation Dot shows up?

    It seems like something that would show up if a surface is out of date. I've rebuilt manually as well as toggled from auto rebuild to by user and back and it does not seem to fix it. Open to any ideas or suggestions.

    Thanks,

    Joe

    Usually it means the corridor model does not show recent changes and needs to be rebuilt. Usually it's because the rebuild property is set to "by user" instead of "Auto"

    That is what I would have said also - does that work Joe - if not I would have to take a look at the project to see what is going on

    The surface is currently marked as Auto. I've tried to go back and forth to see if it was just a glitch in the system as well as manually rebuilding and it will not go away. Alan, if you wouldn't mind taking a look i could email it to you? If so, do I have to send the .vce folder as well?

    Just the VCE should be fine unless the surface is made from Point Clouds or includes draped imagery - those are stored externally and I would need the Folder and the VCE if that was the case.

    The issue was that in your HAL for the Corridor you have a segment that goes back on itself by -0.001 station and you have Alignment Based Surface enabled on the Corridor Surface - The flag is telling you that it cannot compute the Alignment Based Surface because there is an issue with the alignment - for the Alignment Based Surface the elements of the alignment have to be perfectly Tangential - ie no Deflections (Use CTRL and Click on the settings icon in the alignment editor to see the deflections). If they arent as in the case here the corridor builds in the normal way, tries to build the alignment based approach and fails so reverts to the normal TIN Method and flags the Surface with the Red Exclamation Point as a warning. If you turn off Alignment Based Surface - the flag disappears. If you delete the 0,001 segment - the alignment goes tangential and rebuilds the surface and the flag also disappears.

    Here is a short video

    Hope this helps

    Wow great catch Alan. When reviewing the Engineer provided alignment, i skipped right passed the .001' segment as i figured all of the coordinates (PC/PT/PI) match up well, why fix it if it isn't broke. I can totally see where that backfired on me when processing the model. I was worried i I had corrupted the file, and needed to start over. Thank you so much for taking a look and giving me a breakdown.
