Blocks and Symbols in FDM not importing

  • 1.  Blocks and Symbols in FDM not importing

    Hi

I am trying to create a FXL file to meet a local roads authority standard.

The attached need to be applied as symbols to particular feature codes. When using the FDM I attempt to import these as symbols from the source dwg file nothing comes through.

I have also tried to import as blocks using import blocks in the FDM and I get the No block views were imported message.

In TBC itself I can import and insert these as blocks with no issues

    Attachment(s)

    dwg
    LSCP-Tree (Extra Large).dwg   106 KB 1 version
    dwg
    LNMK-L Arrow.dwg   104 KB 1 version
    dwg
    COMM-Phone Box.dwg   100 KB 1 version

In ACAD they not defined as blocks in your files. You have to create blocks with ACAD or TBC and than you will be able to import them.

Hello, Heinz. Nothing shows up in FDM when I import a .dwg for a symbol. I have a hundred cells in Microstation to get to FDM. I have tried exporting from Microstation to Microsurvey CAD (uses Intellicad to create .dwg), with and without cell definition, exploded and re-created blocks in Microsurvey, even created the linework and block in Microsurvey - still no symbol. I have tried importing the Microstation file (no cell, just linework) into TBC, create block and export to .dwg - still no symbol when I import to FDM. Any other ideas? I don't want to re-draw all these symbols, especially in TBC symbol editor.

Hi Alistair, I don't know Microstation. What happens with those blocks, created in Micostation, if you import them into AutoCAD?

I had the same problem. Then, I created all the blocks in one AutoCad file, ensuring the block was inserted into the file.
In a block feature, import blocks and import the dwg with all the blocks inserted in the CAD file.
This worked. You can then select one of the blocks in the file.

Hi Josh, all three dwg files work in my FDM. Did you add them through the Lines and Symbols window -> New Symbol?

And are you using the latest FDM?

    Thanks.

    Hi ,

I've converted your images to Blocks and hopefully they are attached. (Sorry, couldn't work out how to attach them to a reply)

I'm trying to add AutoCAD Blocks to my Feature Library but adding multiple insertion points.

In the case of the arrow, First Insertion point is the tip of the arrow, The second insertion point is the base.

This should scale my AutoCAD Arrow blocks between these points.

Currently experiencing a couple of issues.

Sometimes, I cant open my new Feature Code Library and receive the following messages.

    Error while opening file F:\04052025d.fxl.
Error message: The element 'PointLabel' in namespace 'http://trimble.com/schema/pointlabel' has invalid child element 'UseNumberGroupSeparator' in namespace 'http://trimble.com/schema/pointlabel'. List of possible elements expected: 'Prefix' in namespace 'http://trimble.com/schema/pointlabel'.

Error while opening file F:\02052025 .fxl.
Error message: The 'IsLabelVisible' attribute is not declared.

When I open TBC, open a New project and process the data using the FXL file, it  works fine.

However, when I export as a DWG file, selecting CAD, DWG Exporter, Options, Select by Layer and select all layers, I have no point name description or elevation data.

Any help will be much appreciated.
