SX10 point clouds disappearing after transforamtion

    Hi All

Ever since updating to the latest version of TBC (5.10) our SX10 scans now disappear from view after doing a transformation on them (shifting coords, elevation etc). The data is still there, and when exporting it to a different format to open, for instance, in autocad, its comes back. However we cant get the scan to "re-appear" in TBC. Have dropped re dropping the .job back in, restarting etc and no go.

    Anyone else experience this?

    Cheers

    Hi Chris,

I've seen a similar case of an SX10 point cloud disappearing. The user had deleted a GNSS reference point, causing flags for a few of their total station observations. TBC couldn't compute the scan station information, so the point cloud didn't show. After restoring the GNSS point the scan re-appeared.

I would suggest making sure that your reference information for the station's position is present in TBC.

Good point. This possibly goes for renaming points. In Access, if you rename a point used for a station setup and data collected from it, all the data collected from setups that used that point will become invalid with a ? instead of the point data.

By the way, Access should be able to get over that inability to rename a point used as a station setup. Sounds like a holder over from old programming and isn't using a pointer to the new point name.

Thanks for the response Josh. The job was total station only, with no GNSS data in it. We were setup on arbritary datum (E:1000, N:5000, Elev:100) with a number of setups and refrenced scans. The scans appear fine when the initial .job is dropped in to TBC, but dissapear when the WHOLE job is transformed - whether it be shifting height on to a known datum, or moving/rotating the data as a whole. The scan is certainly still there and has held the transformation (it exports to multiple formats with out a problem) but cant be 'brought back to life' within TBC after restart, refresh, re-dropping the .job in etc.

If possible, could you send me your project files privately so I can try and find a workaround/fix for the issue? I'd be happy to investigate if you'd like.

No worries, whats the best method to upload/send?

    Hi,

I had the same problem. The function "Create Scan Station" saved me. After that I could use the "Transform survey points" and everything worked as it should.

    Have a great day!

So you created the scan stations BEFORE transformation and the scan stuck around after...?

EDIT - tried that (so dumped job in, created scan stations for all scans, then transformed via elevation shift, and again the scan is GONE_

Yes, create the scan station was necessary before the transformation and then all scans was visible and transformed.

Well done Marek, seems to be working now. You should get a job at Trimble...surprised other people havent had this issue also....
