Great job! to the developers on the added feature. It's been a long time coming but KUDOs all around nonetheless.

Its going to be so nice. We have a 5+ year project and all the engineers callouts are south>north orientation. My neck has hurt the last 2 years.

Agreed, years overdue but I'm glad we have it now.

Is it possible to place an as if you had it in front of you with no rotation?  Then rotate the screen to match the orientation of the plan sheet.  Of course without have the sheet be rotate and left in place.  Is this command a "view" or is it done in plan view?

Francisco - To answer your 2nd question, this is not a separate view.  You can rotate ANY plan view using the mouse controls mentioned.  When you run the New Plan View command, it creates a new plan view that is not rotated (same behavior as before).

Where would I find this command? Been waiting for this since the Terramodel days

Tom - My understanding is that this is not a new command.  TBC v5.51 gives you the ability to rotate ANY plan view using mouse controls - just like you can zoom or pan with the mouse, you can now rotate the view with the mouse.

If you want to rotate to specific angles or relative to particular objects (including resetting back to up = North), Rockpile Solutions has a TML that does this.

    Yes, finally we have it.

But why can't they go this tiny, tiny, tiny extra step to make it more user friendly? Save different states, aligning to objects. For the developers that's a piece of cake, look at Rockpile, they could do it in no time.
Even I as rookie macro writer was able to figure it out within a few hours. So, why, why, why being so lazy.

    Hi Ronny,

I'm not sure I would use the term "lazy".  I suspect the team was given fairly basic goals for this release - v5.51 was basically a bug patch.  Perhaps they'll have more options in the next major release...

    I'm just glad:

    a) It's an official feature
So the team has tested/fixed/enhanced the underlying architecture already - and if there are any leftover bugs, they are more likely to fix them.

    b) They provided the built-in mouse controls
TMLs can't replicate this without a TML running.

    c) The rotation is available via an API
This allows the community to do whatever it wants with rotation - as we've seen so far, there are a myriad of ways to define and make use of rotation...

    Hi Quan,
then we call it indifferent to what users would want to do with it.

When I can come up with the attached little gift while having a beer and watching TV in the evening, I'm sure Trimble could do better.

    Unzip into "C:\ProgramData\Trimble\MacroCommands"

Happy rotating everybody. It's not compiled, so everybody is welcome to change the code.

    Cheers
    Ronny

Hi Ronny - You are correct, the software engineers certainly have the skills to do all sorts of great things.  The wrinkle is that the engineers don't usually define the features or enhancements - they just build what they are asked to.

So yes, you are correct, Trimble could do better - but when it comes to the direction of the product, etc. that's usually not the responsibility of engineering.

Quan, yes indeed I am just happy to have the rotate plan view option now.  I was surprised to see them add it into a x.x1 bug patch, and then further surprised and annoyed to learn the 5.51 "patch" is really a full download and install requiring all customizations to be reset again after just resetting them two weeks ago for v5.50.  *facepalm*

I guess if these are my biggest problems then I'm doing pretty well lol

Sorry about the "ribbon" redo - I know that's frustrating every time you do it...

You're right, a normal "patch" would be x.xx.1 (i.e. v5.50.1) and have a patch installer.  But for whatever reason, they made this a "minor release" (x.x1) with no patch installer.

Check for Updates in TBC even refers to 5.51 as a "major software update".  I certainly didn't expect that.

re: doing pretty well - I'm guessing you have issues w/ TBC bigger than the ribbon redo - but I don't want to de-rail the thread :)
