I'm trying to drill down into my earthwork takeoffs to hopefully give better bids in the process, but I'm not getting anywhere as it does not look like TBC is setup to give me what I want. I would like to break my earthwork takeoff up into areas that would be considered short dozer work (i.e. cheaper) say less than 100 LF from cut to fill and that which has to be loaded into pans and hauled (i.e. more expensive) distances greater than 100 LF as an example.
I've tried setting it up a site mass haul analysis but the way I understand it I would have to break each cut region into a borrow site and the fills into a waste site, but I'm not clear on what the processing site would be. This would also take a very long time for most of my sites as the cuts and fills are spread over the whole site.
The region volume report gave me a point for the center of mass for the cut areas and the center of mass of the fills which helps me find the average distance from cut to fill (i think), but in practice this information proved less useful that I wanted. I had a site that was about 2000 LF in diameter but the average distance from center of mass of cut to fill was around 150 LF as the two zones were pretty much spread evenly over the entire site.
What I want would be an analysis where the computer tracks and simulates making the site cut then taking the shortest route into account to place the fills and then reports the average and maximum distance in the simulation as well as total distance traveled. I believe this would go a long way in estimating my site earthwork numbers much more accurately, giving my earthwork crews better budgets and knowing what crews will be needed on certain jobs.
Does anyone know if TBC offers something like this?
