TBC v5.52 - Add Legend for a surface in 3D view

  • 1.  TBC v5.52 - Add Legend for a surface in 3D view

    Posted 09-01-2021 04:12
    Hello to everyone,

I would like to know whether it is even possible to add LEGEND (from SURFACE/LEGEND) to a surface displayed in 3D View (see attachment).

I tried it with no success. In 2D View (Plan View) all is OK (see the 2nd attachment).

    Questions:

    1. Which mathematical method/procedure (its name) is used to compute volume between two previously created/defined surfaces
when I run Earthwork Report in the Surface section?
    2. Which mathematical method/procedure (its name) is used to compute volume when the option Measure/Volume Grid in the Quick Ribbon is used
and what´s the main difference between them (what is more precise)?

Do a screenshot of your legend. Use CAD -> Capture
Create surface where you would like you legend to be. Simple planar rectangle will do.
Import georeferenced JPG with your legend.
Add the JPG to simple planar surface.

Please note: Legend in 3D is set in stone, will not change.

    Thanks Marian for your tip!

I tried it, but TBC always suffers a run-time error (see attachment) when I try to import the geo-referenced image with legend.

I will describe in short the circumstances of this run-time error:

I already have in my project a georeferenced mosaic (in TIFF format, import was/is problem free) which covers area of interest
(where waste reservoir is located for which we have to determine the volume).

So, based on your advice I created a simple planar surface, did a capture of the legend in the
plan (2D) view and saved it as a georeferenced image in TIFF format. Then, I tried to import
the georefrenced TIFF image containing the legend and got the above mentioned run-time error.

Then, I repeated the same steps, just I saved the georeferenced image in JPG format and tried to import it.

This was the only one, when the import was successful. But, I was not satisfied with the JPG picture, therefore
I created a plotbox for limited capture and again, I saved it as georeferenced JPG image (of coarse, first,
I deleted the previous georeferenced JPG picture with legend from the project and recomputed the project).

Then, I imported the new georeferenced JPG picture containing legend with some limits and got the run-time error
(see attachment). I tried it several times - got always the same run-time error.

As can be seen at the beginning ofthe run-time error message (highlighted in yellow), it tells that an item with the same
    key has already been added.

If I understand the message properly, although I deleted the first JPG file with legend and recomputed the project, it has
probably a record in its database that there is already the same JPG and this could cause the problem
(remember - I did NOT removed my georeference TIFF orthophoto file from the project, since I need it - see the second attachment).

Is there a solution of such problem?

Thanks in advance for your consideration!

Based on your screenshot it looks like you take the screenshot (Cad -> Capture i presume) where your legend is, but your 3D Legend surface is elsewhere.

Try to create your 3D Legend surface exactly under the area that was Captured.

Otherwise you're are adding referenced JPG to a surface, but JPG and surface do not have any area in common.

    Thanks Marian!

I did it as you suggested - the problem remains (TBC crashes with the same error message as I already mentioned).

I tried the command CAD/Place Image - but in its first field, where an image can be selected which is to be placed, it offers automatically my
orthophoto map which is placed under PROJECT_NAME folder and this line has no browse button to select another TIFF/JPG/PNG/GIF file
    in a different folder.

When I copied the JPG image with legend (originally placed in the folder PROJECT_NAME/SNAPSHOTS
to the PROJECT_NAME folder, where also the georeferenced orthophoto map file
in TIFF format resides, when I run the command CAD/Place Image again, it always offers ONLY the orthophoto TIFF file.

Nevertheless - thank for your valuable advises!

    Marian,
can you please describe, how to add the jpg to the planar surface. I can´t find the command.

    @Frank Poetschke

Not just Planar surface. Any regular surface will do (I am not certain about tunnels and projected surfaces).
Surface -> Surface Members -> Select JPG in the Project Explorer -> Click ADD

    @Martin Kalafut

    I never use TIFF files.
I just drag and drop my JPG into TBC window. I do not use any Import commands.
Make sure that "file.JPG" and "file.JGW" are in the same folder.
Drag and drop "file.JPG" into TBC Plan View.
Voila, georeferenced JPG has been imported.

Thanks Marian, but the problem is the same also in the case
when I drag and drop JPG  file to the Plan View  (JGW is in the same folder like JPG).
