Hi Sean
For your dealer to transfer the license then they need to have the the old controller. However if the old controller is not avaialble or not usable then they can put in a request to Trimble Licensing to have them transfer the license. If your license is still under a Protection Plan then you should not have to pay for a new license.
Have you got your insurance company involved? Insurance report should satisfy your dealer and Trimble that this is genuine. Similarly if a controller is stolen then a Police and\or insurance report should be enough.

I would think a Trimble Regional Manager could override with some type of affidavit. I didn't think about that.

I should have included in original question, but I am being told we must have the old collector in hand in order to transfer. So since it's at the bottom of the drink, my rep is telling me we have to purchase all again. If we dive down and find it, then they can transfer. The likelihood of that is pretty minimal. Just doesn't sit right with me. We're talking 12K difference.

Sean, I just transferred three licenses from old collectors to new. The dealer relinquishes the license from the wet serial number and reassigns to the new. It can take a few hours to a day depending on the Trimble response. The process is done through Trimble Installation Manager. If you open TAM you will see a tab that I think says relinquish.
Good Luck!

I am a Survey Manager for a large national contractor. We purchased 5 brand new TSC7 collectors with Access and SCS900 along with mobile data plans for our newest project. This is a very large bridge project over water. Unfortunately, we have had one of collectors go into the bay and it is unrecoverable. We will be replacing this with a new collector. My question is about the software licenses. It is my understanding that the licenses are directly linked to the S/N of each machine. Is there any reason the license cannot be cancelled on the old collector and transferred to the new one when purchased? Once transferred, we would download on the new and move on. I cannot fathom having to pay for this again simply because we do not have the lost collector in hand. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with anything like this? Thanks.
