Dell DisplayLink Dock Issues

  • 1.  Dell DisplayLink Dock Issues

    My company got me a new laptop that uses the Dell DisplayLink USBc Dock. I got TBC installed, but it just hangs whenever I try to start a new project or open an existing project. If I unplug the dosk and just run off my laptop, it works just fine. Has anyone else run into this and do you know of a fix (besides getting a new dock).

    Chris,

         We are also having the same issue since the 5.5 release.  This is while using HP Zbooks with a Targus 4K dock that has been working previously.  Some of us are having issues, others are not.  We haven't found a fix yet.

    Yep, had the same issue when upgrading to a newer Windows version a few months ago. My work laptop had a dell docking station, USB-C and TBC kept crashing. Unfortunate for me, I didn't realize it was the docking station for about a week and I really struggled, had to use my personal laptop when I could. The solution for me was very simple. Stop using the docking station. Docking stations are meant for convenience of office works, if you're running TBC, you're not a typical office worker. Programs this robust don't always work with things like docking stations. I was lucky enough on my Dell laptop that I had 1 displayport, 1 HDMI and 1 USB-C that accepted video. I was able to plug 3 cords into my laptop to run each monitor, it worked flawlessly. Having to plug in a few extra cables was far from the most adversity I faced in a day, so I forgot about my docking station and never looked back. Now 95% of my work is done on a desktop and I couldn't be happier, obviously not an option for those traveling around.

    That issue is not exclusive to TBC. We had issues with Autodesk Products as well (i.e. Navisworks)
    We had issues with the Dell D6000, that one needs a display driver. The Dell WD19 works fine for us since it doesn't need a special driver to run the screens.

    I've had similar issues with TBC getting hung up using a Dell Precision 5530 laptop with a dell display link docking station. Once I updated all windows and dell firmware (including the docking station firmware) TBC started working again.
