CAD Grips On Horizontal Alignments

    Hello,

Firstly I think the corridor functions in TBC are amazing! The alignment and corridor tools are some of the most powerful in the software.

Having said that I recently had a demo of Bentley OpenRoad and it highlighted a few things.

My biggest issue is that the amazing tools for editing a vertical alignment (VAL) in profile view do not seem to exist for editing a horizontal alignment (HAL).

When creating a HAL I first use the "line string" to draw out the loose path that I want to create. The line string tool has lots of great features such as PI ARC for making really nice geometry.

I then use the line string as a reference for creating a HAL. The issue is once you create the HAL all the editing ability disappears and it becomes very difficult to amend the path.

It is useful to change the HAL alignment while modelling the corridor for obvious reasons.

Am I missing something here? It seems like all over the dynamic power of VAL editing is completely absent from the HALs.

Is there a way to reference a line string for HAL geometry?

I have attached some screenshot from OpenRoads to give an idea of the tools that can be used to edit a HAL.

I feel many of the tools in TBC are better but the HAL editing is letting it down.

    Many Thanks!

    Sam

    Hi,

I totally agree with this. I do the same method and is very tedious, especially making several minor adjustments.

It would be good if the HAL editor could have the same features of adjustment as the VAL editor.

I agree with this idea too. This would be extremely beneficial and save a lot of time in designing access roads on a hillside in a current project that I am working on. Having the corridor dynamically update with HAL adjustments would speed things up greatly.

    YES!

I keep layers of Alignments and CAD Alignments, which are the Linestring version. It's a few extra steps I wish weren't required, but here's my process:

If I have to update an Alignment, I'll tweak the Linestring or build a new one.  Then create a new Alignment using this, naming it so it's clear it's a revision, and setting it as the active alignment in the Corridor Properties.

Excellent suggestion! I will discuss with engineering for inclusion in a future release.

Sounds like we are all on the same page here! Thanks for talking it on board Charlie! Good luck

Hi Charlie, trust you are well!

Did this ever get closer to being incorporated, for me it still makes corridor creation somewhat frustrating.

Implementing the above would bring it inline work OpenRoads/ Civil 3D, ect

Would be great to get your throughts on it.

    Cheers
