A customer has asked is there a way to assign a data set of points to a layer upon import.  Currently they Import on to Points Layer (default), then they need to select the data set and relayer.  It would be nice to have an option to choose or create a layer for the data set as part of the Import.  Looking at Import Editor, there doesn't seem a way to define the layer currently.  Thank you

In the Import Format Editor you cannot define the Layer, and therefore when you Drag and Drop a Points file it defaults to the "Points" Layer, however if you run the Import command it does offer the Layer at the base of the dialog. So if you want to place points on a layer other than the Points Layer use the Import command rather than drag and drop and you will get your "Christmas Wish".

You cannot create a New Layer from here though, so you need to run Layer Manager to create the Layers (you can do that while the Import Command is still open

1) Create your Layer

2) Import command and select the folder and file and format of the Point Data

3) Select the Layer you created in (1)

4) Click Import

Note also that after Import the Points File automatically becomes a Selection Set also that you can easily Isolate from the View Filter manager

Can you add this Assign Layer option as well in the Import Format Editor? Maybe at the General Properties.
