Create Point- assign elevation based on where it falls within surface?

  • 1.  Create Point- assign elevation based on where it falls within surface?

    Posted 18 days ago

Is there a way when creating a point to assign it an elevation based on where it falls within a surface? For example- I have 2d line work for a bridge approach sleeper slab where I'd like to create points on the corners and I'd like it to have the elevation based on the road corridor surface it falls within. Right now I'm manually looking at the grade in surface slicer view or just calculating it manually.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Chris

When in the elevation field, right click for a From Surface Snap

Thanks Nelson, I had no idea right clicking in fields gave the options for various commands, thought everything was shown as a button or drop down menu.

You don't have to click in that field, you just have to have your cursor there. Generally in TBC if your cursor is in a field looking for a particular object type or parameter, you can then click on another object to extract that property or right click for contextual snaps and references.

So if you select a green CAD line and click in the 'color' property to highlight that field, then go click on a yellow line, it changes that property of your selected line to yellow.

If you're looking for elevation, in the sense your cursor is in that field, you can click on any object in the plan view and it uses that selected elevation. If you don't have a surface vertex point exactly where you want to use the surface elevation, then a right-click for surface snap can be used exactly at the location of the selected point.
