How is V5.70 doing for everybody?

  • 1.  How is V5.70 doing for everybody?

    Posted 06-18-2022 06:03
Just wanted to create a general discussion about the usability of V5.70. Are there any major issues or bugs that made anyone downgrade? I used it slightly but then downgraded as I would have to have my entire team upgrade to make things run smooth and wasn't sure if I was ready for issues for all of us.

I am not recommending upgrading to TBC 5.70 way too many bugs and broken commands.

    I am running 5.60.2 and 5.70.

I'm finding a number of bugs too - I think a downgrade might be a smart move for me while these get worked out

I am with the others. I play with 5.7 but there are to many bugs and broken commands to depend on it. Waiting for the next update.

It's very unfortunate that Trimble can't put together a release that we can rely on. I'm thankful for the progress on additional features though. Just doesn't feel good when it seems like we're doing the beta testing. Any specific issues you're finding. Trimble will need to know.

Anyone else try to install multiple versions? I did what I normally do to install multiple versions and it wasn't working for me this time.

Digitize Cross Sections is broken, one of my first client calls on 5.70.  And to make matters worse
he had saved the project.  Nasty move back to 5.60.2

I made the mistake of installing 5.7 without keeping the 5.6 version. In the end everything needed to be removed. Then install 5.6 and rename. Followed by the 5.7 install.

FYI, as shown on the information about this forum, Trimble wants bugs to be sent to your Trimble vendor to pass along instead of posted here.  Probably since they won't see all posts in this forum.

then, why does this website not have a complaint box where we can just summit our problems straight to Trimble.  why go around when we should be able to straight to the source.  or even inside TBC, that give us an option to send out errors.  As long as we are signed in to our Trimble ID.

    Great input!
When i get an error wich probably is a bug i write in the forum to get help of solving it, i dont do it for informing Trimble of the problem. I have a job to do and i dont have the time to post in the forum about bugs a can find my own work around for. BUT, if there was possible do report stuff from inside TBC with text/video and posting a screendump i would do that. It would be fast and easy.

That would mean that i should spend my time, unpaid, reporting to sitech here in Sweden and do a explanation about the problem. They will send this to trimble somwhere and will probably come back to me with more questions about my problem such as my type of computer, did a run cleaup prior to installation and stuff. Thats not why i pay 15.000$ per year to Trimble, to help out for free. I am posting my bugs on the forum is when i cant find my own workaround.

Robert: I don't have the time to waste informing my local Sitech/geospatial reseller about bugs. That is just another layer of "lets ignore this" that I don't need. When (not if) I find a bug in every new release I try on my own to find a workaround. If that fails I post here to get other dedicated users to help. Together we generally solve things here.

Of all the high end software I use on a daily basis Trimble is the least responsive to bugs, or feature requests etc. I don't need to be asked by a rep who knows less about the day to day use of TBC  if I have run the cleanup and reinstalled (should I ever have to do this!?!?), plugged it in, or rebooted my computer.

"Probably since they won't see all posts in this forum."  I have serious doubts about them EVER seeing ANYTHING that's posted here. Or it could be that they'd rather not have a potential customer researching the software to have the majority of search results be unresolved bug reports from 6 years ago...

Steve: The really sad part is that this forum is filled with dedicated users who care about the product. (Although it seems there are far less users since the "new" forum started). There are folks here who really know their sh*t when it comes to TBC.  Sadly,  Trimble doesn't seem to see it as a resource.

No matter how small I set hit length and search distance it still wants to apply elevations to adjacent lines within 0.10'. I had both search and hit set to 0.01' and the elevation rule I applied searched past those constraints. Additionally I took an extra step and manually edited several of the vertical rules to what linstrings the rules applied to; those manual edits did not maintain the user applied choices.

I was attempting to elevate a section of monolithic sidewalk using vertical design and had to finally scrap the vertical design and elevate the line strings via line string edits and data prep commands.

    VERY FRUSTRATING!

It is like relearning the whole program every time they have a "Major Update".  The development team must not debug anything.  I was just switching most of my data prep workflows over to Vertical Design and now using the tool IS ABSOLUTELY PAINFULL!!!

Hello @Markku Alanko - one annoying issue is, every time the Edit VD command is called by the user, the Vertical Design layer turns off. Then, the only way to get the rules to show is to, of course, turn the layer back on having first switched back to the View Filter, and then rebuild the VD. That's a lot of steps before making any edits. It seems pretty simple but this becomes very very tedious and a production zapping process when many edits are required.  Thanks

Turns out I missed a setting in the Properties Pane. Setting the property to yes eliminates the annoying behavior of the rules layer shutting off every time the Edit VD command is selected.
Thanks @Ed Levandoski and SiTech MetroNorthEast.
