Importing PDF intermittent display issue.

  • 1.  Importing PDF intermittent display issue.

    Posted 07-08-2020 08:19

At times there are issues with getting a newly imported pdf to display. Usually, switching the display style to my usual "dimmed" style will make it appear. If that doesn't work, invoking the "Georef Vector PDF" command will make it appear. However, there are occasions where that doesn't even work. As you can see in the clips below, the pdf is there as witnessed by the vector snap under the cursor, however, as you can also see, the pdf is not visible. Please advise.

Once (and if) the pdf does initially display and is Georeferenced, the pdf usually displays as expected.

This issue is quite frustrating as it is intermittent and I am unable to put my finger on what is different to cause the issue.

Yes my display drivers are up to date.

I was able to get the pdf [4] to appear by picking an arbitrary pixel and an arbitrary location in the "Georef Vector PDF" command.  Then doing it again correctly. However, I am sure this isn't the intended workflow and should be addressed.

    In summary:

[3] and [5] appeared after switching the display style.

    [6] appeared immediatly as expected.

[4] only appeared after picking arbitrary pixel and location selections.

    DPI is set at 300

I would have to have the project Richard to take a look. Maybe it is to the Support - Options use Double Precision Patches setting - try changing that. Could also be to do with the way the images are being tiled - support Options Images - try changing the way the tiling is working and then change it back - that will force the images to retile and maybe that will fix the issue - failing that please share the project so I can take a look

Thanks Alan - project shared offline.

Here are the Option settings I had when importing.

I have logged in a Dev Research request to see if this could be tied to the Dropbox Background Sync process as we discussed. I have not seen this issue personally, but I dont do this as much as you guys most likely do every week, however the fact that it is intermittent and the fact that you are seeing this but I am not, indicates it may be an issue with your "Setup" and that includes Dropbox and syncing in background which may or may not be part of the root cause here. I use One Drive in a similar manner but maybe there are some settings and controls on the Dropbox Sync, or maybe it handles file locking etc differently when it takes a hold of the file for its process, and maybe that is interfering with TBC in some way.

As discussed, if you could try the process with Dropbox Sync disabled to see if it is happening still. If it works better, please capture the Dropbox Settings that you have setup so we can replicate your setup exactly to see if we can recreate the issue.

Will do Alan thanks for your help.

The way plan changes come in and new jobs start, it probably won't be long before I need to import a new set of pdfs.

I can anecdotally confirm that DropBox is the culprit in this issue. I had to swap out a new plan set (#updatesarekillingme) and, with DropBox syncing paused, TBC responded substantially faster. We use DB extensively, please consider optimizing TBC to better handle cloud syncing services. Also, what other TBC operations might be affected by cloud syncing?

We use Dropbox for all of our file sharing, and I usually have to work with syncing paused, and then turn it on later when it is convenient for me.  That has alleviated the majority of my issues like this.

Thanks Michael. Are there any other issues that you've been able to attribute to Dropbox?

Mostly problems saving, and not having imported pdfs show up.
