Layer Groups

Hi, when we import data we use a Prefix. Is there a way to import straight into a Layer Group?

i.e. Import, User Prefix : "CAD" /  xxxxxxxxx

.....and is there an option for Sub groups / like a having a layer group tree:

    i.e.

    CAD (Layer Group) parent level

    Subgroup

CAD 230601 Topo / Layers WXYZ....

    Subgroup

CAD 230601 Layout / Layers STUV.....

    Subgroup

CAD 230601 Design / Layers ABCDE...

    Subgroup

CAD 230601 Formation / Layers FGHIJ....

    Regards,

    Julius

Yup. I have asked for this as well. The filter in layer manager helps but would cut out a few steps and streamline the process greatly.

What kind of software are you preparing import data in?

ANZToolbox -> ANZ Edit -> Map Objects

You can assign objects to layers and layer groups based on their Name / ID or attributes

ANZToolbox -> ANZ Edit -> Regroup Layers

Select layers from the list, or based on the visible elements

If you import VCL, it already contains layer groups (if it was exported with layer group).

    Hi Marian,

Thanks for the reply.  When we have import data from TBC projects / Site equipment, 12d etc, that's fine, it's importing data from third party providers.

Obviously we (as everyone does) have the additional challenging of exploding, which then causes more refinement requirements.

I'll have a look at the ANZ regroup layers, I would prefer to also have layer / group automation on import.

    Thanks,

    Julius

Great to have alternative options such as ANZ and Rockpile but I agree with Julius that this should be a standard feature in TBC

This has a direct benefit being natively introduce in TBC on speed and and organization.  Especially for those that deal with large data sets.

    • Current process:
      • import with prefix
      • open up layer manager
      • open up layer group manager
      • create applicable group
      • filter recently import layers based prefix/suffix
        • no select all on filter layers either so user has to scroll to select or individually select. Please add select all for visible layers please!!
      • assign to layer group
    • Julius suggest
      • import and set layer group
        • either to existing or ability to create and set

This would save 5 steps and not only does it have ROI in time, it is easier to teach and learn because it is more simplistic = better UX to all.
