Machine control files

Hey community, I'm new to all of this and need some help. I'm trying to figure out how to create a machine file for my d5 dozer. Its GCS900, I'm not too sure what exact files are needed from the surveyor in order to create the machine file on TBC. I have a .DXF file, but I've seen multiple videos where guys have the .DXF, .TTM and .DC files when they first import the files into a new project on TBC. I've also seen that after all 3 files are entered into TBC, it shows in the bottom right that it's calibrated, while mine just says "grid". I'm guessing that's what one of the other files are for?

    Hi John

if you don't have a site calibration then it will say grid when it use your choice of coordinate system in your project

you can use DXF, DWG, TTM, Land XML as linework and surface designs into TBC

Export from TBC into your D5 should be " Machine Job Site Design Exporter under the construction tab

There you also can choose your background map as well

When you're about to export all 3 files that's needed for the GCS 900 system you'll need to do one last choice under settings in the exporter tab.

which controller software version you have in the dozer and what MS 99? Version you're running.

MS 990 and 992 uses .cfg file for configuration and MS 995 and 996 uses .cal for configuration.

So you have to enable MS 990 compatibility if you're running an older receiver

I hope you got some answer to your question

I'm guessing MS995? Sorry I'm new to all of this.

    the software version is 13.13-RC3
im trying to figure out what files I need from the surveyor to be able to convert it to the machine? What are the 3 files needed?
Does the site calibration need to be done in order for the files to work in the machine?
    thank you for your help,
    John

Does the site calibration need to be done in order for the files to work in the machine? Yes, you need a .cal file for 995s

See attached and what file structure it needs to be in

Okay so I take the DXF, DWG, TTM, Land XML, create a design, then I get the files in the "officedata" and "designs" folders. Then I take that and convert that to the machine job site design exporter and put it in the "design name" folder?

    John,

For Accugrade/GCS900 you need a .SVD .SVl and .CFG file. not a .cal file. Those are MS955's not 995's.  Typically its easiest to generate the .CFG file onsite after site calibration right off the data collector but if you have it already that works also. but if its a different site cal file then your own I would recommend not using it. you can drag the .dxf and .ttm file into TBC or the landXML or other formats the surveyor can provide as long as you have line work and a surface. you can use the "construction data" tab to create a site and it will publish the design in the correct structure for the machine to accept. in your case "Machine Control data" Folder>"All" Folder> "Project Name" Folder> .SVD .SVL .CFG files.

Alex, this is incorrect. .CAL has been the standard since 12.6, from my memory. .CFG is incapable of referencing a Geoid.

I definitely do not mess with GCS to much anymore. you for sure can use a .cal file I guess I just dont see it much with that system. Not super common to see geoids referenced with local site calibration. I do have a few machines running 13.15 that use CFG's tho, havent seen any issues so far.

.CFG still works perfectly fine, as you said, for local calibrations.

WorksManager sends a .CAL by default, and regardless of the functionality of the projection files the designs won't work unless you have 13.19+

In AK, the majority of DOT projects now are LDPs with Geoids, and we generally advise against performing a local calibration. If the surveyor adjusts the control at the start of the project, as the spec requires, our gear will be nice and tight to control without calibrating.

Good day Alex, I was wondering if you know if I can use Trimble Business Centre Survey Intermediate to properly export Machine Control Files. It seems I can export .svd and .svl files just fine. I am not sure why the construction module is needed, .dsz etc. It is very costly to upgrade to the ultimate TBC construction edition.
