Point Cloud classify feature not working

  • 1.  Point Cloud classify feature not working

    Posted 02-14-2025 16:41

I updated to TBC 2024.00 last year sometime and every since cannot classify an point clouds. I open the command, select the area I want to classify press the button, it starts to process for about 20 seconds before just crashing the entire program. Tried testing other point clouds that have classified with previous versions and same behavior with the program crashing. Tried updating to 2024.01 and 2024.10, same behavior. Tried uninstalling/re-installing and same behavior. Tried uninstalling and installing previous version that I know have worked and same behavior. It seems that after updating to 2024.00 it has broken my TBC point cloud classification feature. At this point I've tried everything I can to get this resolved and nothing works. Not sure what to do at this point.

PC specs: cpu i9-13900K, memory 128GB, 2tb ssd (with plenty of available space, gpu NVIDIA GeForce TRX 4080

Hi Josef. Have you discussed your issues with your Reseller (CSDS I assume)? They should be able to help you make some progress on resolving this.

I have the same problem. I reported it to our vendor and nothing yet. I also posted the problem on January 13, 2025.

No answer from TBC or the vendor.

I receive this error when trying to classify a point cloud in TBC 2024.1

    Hi Juan,

Do you still experience this error message during Point cloud classification? If yes, could you please enable logging information and share log file with us?

To do that you will need to open file C:\Program Files\Trimble\Trimble Business Center\eCognition\config\eCognition.cfg in text editor and change tracing level from Basic to Detailed. Then try to run Point cloud extraction.

After that go and get the log file itself from here C:\Users\aabucev\AppData\Local\Temp\Trimble.eCog.log , and please share it with me.

    Regards,

    Evelina

If you uninstalled and reinstalled an older version and it still didn't work, it's likely that you didn't run the Trimble cleanup utility between.

My go to workflow when installing a new version of TBC is to run the cleaner, restart the pc, and complete the install. If it that still doesn't work, I'll go deeper and remove the libraries, like the 2008 C++ redistributable that TBC installs but the cleaner won't remove, and anything named Trimble in my main drive and apps. Revo Uninstaller can help with this. After, a fresh download on stable internet and an install should fix most issues.

Point clouds have not been stable since 2023.9. The Refine feature did not work at all last year and still continues to not work. I have constant Invocation errors. I've talked to Sitech, adjusted the various settings that Trimble recommends, feels like I've done it all.

I only keep the Photogrammetry module because of the Advanced Filtering on Point Clouds.

To sum up, TBC is one of the worst hodgepodge'd together programs I've ever used, and I feel fortunate that I work at a company without strict IT policies, so that i can fix TBC as needed. If a person had to reach out to IT every time there was an issue, it'd be a large chunk of time. I still wonder on even our somewhat lax IT policy, if TBC doesn't still have issues because of it. I have constant authorization errors when trying to save projects and so on. You need to run TBC on a PC with admin privileges for sure.

Using the Cleanup Utility tool worked. I completely uninstalled everything related to Trimble on the PC, restarted, then reinstalled TBC and seems to be working fine now. During the install process I made sure to not carry over setting and started with a fresh plate.
