Yes,
Maximum edge length was my first port of call, but no joy unfortunately.
I've revisited the settings and noted a key difference to your screenshot. For some reason my system has the
Break Line Approximation parameters H and V tolerances set at 0.020. I've knocked them down to 0.0001 just to be on the safe side and the problem is solved.
Thanks for the input, only random tinkering would've worked but for your screenshot.
oh, FYI,
I'm currently running V5.50... and downloading the 5.81 update as I type. Quite why I've disabled the automatic update check is anyone's guess.

There is a setting that will create additional nodes on linestring segments if you set the value smaller than the segment length.

But it usually creates the nodes distributed over the length of the segment, not that close to another node.
Which version are you running? Can you send a sample of the data you use to create the surface?

Subject: Random vertices
Hi all,
I've recently noted something that I have previously never encountered.
I'm building a surface from 3D lines and polygons and for some reason additional vertices are being created. Normally I would only expect to see additional vertices where the string in question has either curved segments, additional vertical alignment points or reciprocal points in a corridor. The images below show a typical example of the anomaly, with the second image taken when editing and shows the elevation of the horizontal node as expected. The vertical data is blank at all vertices shown..
Is this a setting that I'm missing somewhere? As I said at the start I've never encountered this before in over a decade using TBC.
