Reduce surface triangles

  • 1.  Reduce surface triangles

A colleague of mine would like to load a DGM that he generated from drone flight data in TBC into another program for further processing.
The point cloud was classified, resampled and cleaned, but the number of triangles is still too large for him to continue working properly in ISL Kocher. Is there a trick (other than reducing the number of points for the surface calculation) where the quality doesn't decrease quite so drastically?

Thanks for any help, tips or ideas on how to simplify this!

    Hello Ramona,

you can try my macro SCR_DTMCleanup which is open source and part of a whole lot of other macros available as package under

    https://github.com/RonnySchneider/SCR_Macros_Public

    SCR_DTMCleanup

    -        !!! BETA version !!!

    -        maximum tolerance values are limited to 1m for now

    -        this macro runs through all the vertices of a surface, combines them if they fall within the set tolerance and builds a new surface

    -        can fix issues with the Rainfall macro

    -        on large surfaces, with lots of vertices it can take some time to finish – speed was drastically improved with 17/01/2022 update

    -        currently boundaries for holes need to be added manually again

black lines are the original triangulation, red the new one

on very small scales the new triangulation can look a bit off, but that is a visualization issue
