Running Snaps Still Broken?

  • 1.  Running Snaps Still Broken?

The near point snap mode always takes priority, even when set to the bottom of the list. Makes it impossible to select vertices or points along a line if the near snap mode is enabled. Is this a known issue? Any workarounds?

Also the Vector PDF nodes option doesn't seem to do anything, am I missing something?

Yeah snaps still suck overall. Vector PDF nodes only work if you select the check box when you georeference a vector PDF. Then they'll work

    Mr. Judice,

I'm having a hard time recreating what you're seeing. Which version of TBC are you using when this occurs? The below GIF shows me using default snaps, but with Near Point additionally toggled on in its default heirarchal position in the snaps list. This is the public 5.81 build. If you could send me the data, exact snap settings, and exact steps to follow to see the same behavior, I may have a better chance of duplicating your findings. Similarly, I have no issues with the PDF snaps. Perhaps Mr. Bower's suggestion is the cause?

Charlie, try zooming in close where there is a point next to the line. I know exactly what Matthew is talking about. I feel like it's normally when you're zoomed in closer.

I'll screen record what I mean when I get a minute, try snapping to vertices along a surface member as if you were trying to create breaklines, near point doesn't take priority over the end point snap (and i think mid point) which is why your not seeing the issue. I should have clarified that. I've noticed the bug when trying to snap onto vertices and points that are either directly on or very close to a line.

I'm running the same version, 5.81.

As far as the vector pdf snaps, I thought it was supposed to allow snaps to vector pdf data all the time instead of just being a toggle option that's only used when georeferencing.

There is a new option to select when you georeference a PDF. If you don't check that, it wont allow vector PDF snaps. If you have already georeferenced that PDF, just do it again and then select the option to use vector snaps. Then that PDF becomes snappable (if that's a word).

Oh that makes more sense, I'll try that out.

The nodes from the vector pdf are extracted and saved when the image is georeferenced.

If you have an old VCE file (so no nodes extracted), just georeference the image again. You don't need to change any of the reference coordinantes.

    Charlie,

This is the issue I'm experiencing, I can't reliably snap onto a vertex or point along a line if the near point snap is enabled, regardless of the near point snap mode's priority.

    Mr. Judice,

Can you provide me with the data you're using so that I can duplicate it on my end to add to a ticket for engineering to review?

You mean the project file? It's not exclusive to any project in particular, happens with any lines on any project I work on. Are you not able to replicate it? If it isn't an issue for you maybe I should try a clean install of TBC?

Edit: Also the pdf vector data snap works fine, I didn't know about the new option that had to be enabled. Thanks all I've been wanting that feature for years, going to save me a ton of time.

Correct. I can't replicate what your GIF shows. If you could provide me the project file (archived with the data folder) I can try to replicate it.
