I'm running a site mass haul analysis for a bid coming up next week and I'm getting some strange results. I'm not sure if it is in the way that I setup the project or something else but I would appreciate someone taking a look and letting me know.
Basically I have two project phases connected by a single haul road and a borrow site on the far side of one of the phases. See screenshot below and attached site mass haul results. The northern phase is zones 1 through 39 and the southern section is zones 40 through 85. The northern zone will require approximately 6000 CY of import and the bottom zone will require approximately 1500 CY of import (this based on takeoff reports using site AIOs for each site). Everything seems to be functioning correctly but when you dig into the results for the site mass haul, the computer is not moving the earthwork around the site in the most efficient way; at least to my judgement.
For example, the computer is moving 79.8 CY from zone 19 to zone zone 74 (i.e. north site to south site). Then it moves 47.7 CY from zone 66 to zone 18 (south site to north site). Also, zone 18 and 19 are next door to one another. I'm not sure why the computer would want me to move 79 CY of soil 2000 LF across the site to balance a zone then move 47 CY of soil 2000 LF back to balance a zone next door. My assumption would be for the computer to move everything in the southern direction balancing as it went headed north which is how we would build the project in the field. Just based on this I'm not sure about using the results.
I just need to know if this is due to the way that I setup the project or an internal error on the part of the program.
