SX10 often losing connection to TSC7 during scans

  • 1.  SX10 often losing connection to TSC7 during scans

Often during a SX10 scan, when I'm sure there's other Wifi networks in the area, connection will be lost to the TSC7 and it won't reconnect.  SX10 will scan until its buffer is full and then be motionless. My recourse (after it stops scanning) is to open and close the SX10 battery door, power on, and then resume scan once connection is established again.  This can happen when the TSC7 is 7 feet from the SX10.

Has anyone else had this type of issue?

I've had this issue since July of last year and have been prodding my vendor with this issue which they inquire to Trimble. I'm on all current versions of TA, firmware, and Windows OS.

I have had the same issue.  Tried two separate TSC7s with different versions of Access and still the same problem.  Completed only 15% of a scan and then disconnected.

Is that an ongoing problem for you on scans currently?

    HI,
I had the same problem when switching between Trimble Access versions. It was the 2020.11 version. The SX10 scanned the first scan, which it stored in the controller at best, and the second scan ended without store and completely frozen by the TA. I must restart TA. Everything was solved by the subsequent version of TA. It wasn't the SX10 firmware or WIFI driver.
An emergency solution that always works is a cable connection. It always worked reliably. With TA 2021 with the latest SX10 firmware I no longer have problems.

Only once did I have TA freeze up, but losing (and unable to reconnect without starting the SX10) connection is still happening with 2021.00.  A cable would work, if I had time to sit and watch it scan which I don't.  I'd rather be using GNSS of integrated surveying while the SX10 is scanning.  My connection problem started before I was using integrated surveying so it's not an overloading of use of TSC7.

So its not just me.....I have had the same issue for the last week, i had hired in an SX10 and used our own tsc7. it would work fine for a while then decide not to . I was however working near to electricity pylons and sub stations..? maybe interference?

The issue is with scanning. When I use the SX10 as a robot, I'm always able to reconnect with Wifi if I'm at a distance and it loses connection, but just walking closer to the SX10.  That is not how the connection fixes itself during scanning.  Scanning does collect and transfer a lot of data.   I've had wifi connection lost during scanning (and it wouldn't reconnect) when the TSC7 was within 10 feet of the SX10. I think this is a bug that has been in TA since TA 2020.

If you have errors, problems, you need to push them to your vendor to push to Trimble. If Trimble doesn't know there's problems, they won't know to fix them.

    Hi Robert
If you haven't already done so I would get the SX series logs off the device and send them to your dealer. This can be done in Trimble Access. Go into About, Support, SX10/SX12 log collector. Your delaer can send this on to Trimble for analysis. You may also want to send the sc.log form Trimble Data\System File plus the sc_minidump.dmp file, if it exists.

Yes my dealer has asked for log files, which I need to make time to gather and send on.  Was seeing if others have the same issue.

I had the same problem a few days ago.

There was a lot of video communication and other WiFi.

The command becomes sluggish and eventually disconnects and switches to the radio .

It's keep failing when I try to switch back to WiFi.

I thought doubt it was a hardware malfunction.

But when I got back to my office and other empty Spaces, the problem didn't happen again.

Junning: were you doing scans with SX10/12?  If not, it's probably typical wifi traffic that limits distance you can keep connected by wifi.  I have the same experience when operating the SX10 as a robot (not scanning), but could always reconnect with wifi by moving closer to the SX10. With my wifi scanning issue, it can lose connection while the TSC7 is within 10 feet of the SX10 and it won't reconnect.

If the surrounds are flat without other communication or possible wifi signals, I can get 600-750 feet wifi robot connection distance.

    Hi There,
Has anyone found a solution to this problem?  My SX12 randomly disconnects from wifi with no apparent reason.  It usually connects for a while and then starts to disconnect and reconnect intermittently after 15-20mins until it disconnects for good and I have to restart everything.  Its very annoying to say the least!  Any clues to the problem?  I have a T100 controller.

    Thanks,
    Shawn

My issue is with the TSC7 and only during scans.  No resolution but I've had it for 3 years and haven't had it in for service yet.

Has anyone come about solving this issue?

Having the same problem with my TSC7 and SX10 where the Wifi will disconnect while performing a scan.

I got my SX10 and TSC7 in for service and it was determined the Wifi board in the SX10 was bad.  Even though I had email documentation of when the issue started, Trimble would not replace the board under warranty because the service happened after warranty expired. It could have been about $400 for the board plus labor.  Replacing the board fixed the losing connection during scans where it would not reconnect once I get clear line to the SX10 if it does temporarily lose connection.

My issue was connection could not be re-established during a scan (most times) if it did lose connection. I had to wait for the scan to end or SX10 buffer to get full, then power of SX10, turn it on again, go into Scanning and resume/download scan.

I have seen this happen before on an early model SX10 in cluttered Wifi environments. To be fair to Trimble, Wifi is an open spec and not all kit plays nice. A replacement board (which I understand to have a newer radio chip) seems to handle these situations better, but as with all things radio, YMMV.

Alternatively, if you can, use the USB cable in the bottom of the case during scans. Or, try changing the WiFi channel in connection settings (free apps for your phone can tell you which channels are less cluttered).

    Good luck!
