thanks Ronny, have used the IFC's in access, but more or less as a visual aid, did go little deeper into what access can do with IFC's, and yes its possible to use points from the meshified IFC to get a position/bearing and slope angle, you will not get the centre of a bolt thoh(no vertex there), just the edge verticies on the mesh are points that can be used, so for concrete piles it is perhaps good enough, for millimeter precision you might want to prepare a line that sits exactly as theoretical,
yes, the IFC explode, perhaps better off explode the damn thing first
and the line extraction was for the high voltage power lines type of thing(?)
Cheers!

Why don't you use the IFC directly in Access?
The other option is the macro "explode IFC"? That will create all the linework that the IFC is made of. That is a Trimble macro and is included since several versions.

Subject: TBC extract piles/truss beams from IFC's etc to Access and scan extraction
Hi,
ok, so today I have a question about how to extract surveying data to access from a IFC's: have tried to extract truss beams centerline(with a position/angle/bearing) from a IFC, that did not work, I tried to use snap witha linesstring, could not get that to work(could snap onto edge of mesh and create a line of diameter of beam(at the ends of it) but then for some reason TBC did not snap on midpoint on that??) , the IFC itself seems to be in mesh form(should it not be solids/parametric?), any hints on how to extract survey data from IFC's is welcome
and once for ex the piling is done and you choose to scan dito, is there any quick way to extract the centre line for individual piles(etc)? create surfaces from two sides and offset to centre pile and then extract a centre line? will extract line feature work on this(have tried he gutter extract, and also tried the line extration, but that is used for lines laying reasonable flat(?) or is there already some functions built into the TBC to handle this sort of things?
Cheers!
