TBC2024 - Define topsoil / strip uppermost stratum issue

  • 1.  TBC2024 - Define topsoil / strip uppermost stratum issue

    Posted 09-26-2024 06:22

I have a workflow that I have successfully used for a number of years, but I am now seeing a recurring issue since TBC2024... I wondered if anyone else has experienced the same?

When defining a site to be stripped, I define the strata, enter borehole information and create the various depth surfaces.  If I have areas that are to be then excluded from the soil stripping, I create these boundaries, plus a larger external boundary that encompases the entire site area.  I then select the external boundary, set it to strip the uppermost stratum, and the internal boundaries can be set at 0mm (or whatever is requried).

Historically, this has worked perfectly every time, however what I now find is that this workflow works initially, but then if the surfaces are rebuilt, the external boundary essentially brings the OG with Topsoil Stripped surface down in elevation (for example lowering by 100m or so).

To resolve this, I have to remove the external boundary, re-build the surfaces, and re-apply "strip uppermost stratum" to the external boundary and re-build the surfaces again.

I'm also having this issue! So annoying as I've tried deleting an rebuilding the original group surface, changed boundaries etc. I have 2 topsoil boundaries on my surface, one outer with a 'strip uppermost stratum' and an inner with a 0mm strip.

I then have the same issue as you have mentioned.

This is still an ongoing issue I am finding.  I regularly have to continually remove and add boudnaries to correct this issue - now on most jobs I am creating.  Extrememly annoying.

Yeah I noticed the same thing on a takeoff I did the a couple months ago.

I have also seen this issue and have not found a better solution than the remove/add method mentioned above.

Agreed, I have been spending an extra 30 minutes to an hour on recent take-offs doing the exact same thing.  Unfortunate as the 'Strip uppermost Stratum" is a good function/command in my opinion.  Has anyone had different outcomes with deleting THEN rebuilding the surfaces, relative to just "re-clicking" build surfaces?  Looking like our solution moving forward is still deleting/rebuilding surfaces until X-sections correlate?

The usual fix for me is to go back into the Define Topsoil command and remove the outer stripping boundary then re-introduce the same boundary and rebuild.  This is STILL an issue in v2024.12 and occurs on most projects.

We run into the same issue in our office.
