Trimble Access and Survey Pro Compatability

    Trimble has informed us that they are ending production of survey pro software. We have 20 survey crews and i think Trimble access is the next logical step for us however the two do not talk together at all. Our supplier lent us a data collector with Trimble access to try out and the only way i can get them to read each others files is through JXL. Our crews each go to 3-4 jobs per day and work on projects up to 10 years+ old so having file transfer and compatibility between crews is very critical to our process. Importing and exporting JXL wont work.  Am i missing something here or is Trimble leaving us high and dry by ending survey pro with zero compatibility to access?   why cant Survey pro have an access export? and why cant access have a .survey export? common Trimble! Right now survey pro accepts S series robots and everything up to R10 model 2. So we cant purchase any new Trimble GPS units without switching to access.   has anyone had experience with this and have a better workflow?

    I don't use survey pro, but you might be able to do a batch conversion of many survey pro files through this Trimble page: https://surveytools.trimbleaccess.com/jobconverter

    Trimble bought survey pro many years ago and it's reasonable that they kept Access and survey pro as separate programming.  I think Trimble might have a new collector software out that isn't Access. You might look into that too.

    Hello Sean,

    Unfortunately, as you have discovered, the only way to bring data that had been collected in Survey Pro into Trimble Access / Spectra Origin is to export it as a .jxl and then bring the exported .jxl into either TA or Origin. Spectra Origin is the successor to Survey Pro and is built on the Trimble Access platform. A workflow transition guide can be found attached.

    I believe that there may be sales incentives still available to make the transition to Spectra Origin from Survey Pro, but you would need to confirm the current availability of this with your local authorized Trimble / Spectra dealer.

    We maybe in the same boat come this fall.  Which I think its a great upgrade and will be a beating on the field guys as they do all their own calcs for the projects.

    I want to add a couple of important points to Chris' response.
     
    As Chris has already pointed out, Spectra Origin is an evolutionary extension of Survey Pro. Having recently spoken to the team at software development company (they specialise in survey software development), they confirmed that the transition is indeed worthwhile.
     
    To make the process as smooth as possible, especially with 20 crews, it's important to prepare properly. 
    - Provide pre-training for your staff
    - Start with a pilot project with 1-2 crews
    - Discuss training opportunities and discounts with your dealer.
     
    Future prospects are very optimistic:
    Enhanced functionality on a new platform, regular Trimble Access updates, improved support for new equipment, deeper integration with other Trimble products
