If you (or anyone else) has a business need for seeing or using that ESRI data within TBC, just post on the forums and we can see what we can do.
The TBC dev team also sees the forums, so any requests for enhancements/features are fair game to the whole community!

The files are artifacts from ESRI. Typically, a folder pointed to that contains a image file that was georeferenced will contain at least one to 3 files.
My tests reveal TBC ignores all 3. Only the jgw (for a JPG) is used by TBC. Other files are harmless, and should never be deleted by a user if they are also using the same directory with ArcGIS Pro.

Thanks Joel, sounds like these files are useful to keep.
Does TBC (as of 2025.21) do anything with the statistics (.aux.xml) or metadata (.xml) files?
Is there value in displaying those inside TBC? Or are they just ESRI artifacts that are saved in TBC project folders for archival sake?

Hi Quan,
.aux.xml is created when ESRI products (typically ArcGIS Pro or ArcMap) touches the georeferenced product. A user is prompted in Pro to create these when asked "
As for the .xml, this is produced when a user has applied metadata on the JPG. A fourth file is also possible during typical ESRI workflows. A .prj file (projection file) can be assigned to an image that explicitly states the coordinate system.

Hi John,
Thanks for the detailed description. It sounds like the main fix was to drag the .JPG from a folder that also included the .JGW
If you had dragged the .JPG from the Downloads folder (which also had the .JGW), I'm guessing TBC would have geo-referenced the JPG appropriately. And would copy those 2 files to the project folder - but I appreciate that you prefer to organize the project folder yourself.
In your screenshot, I also noticed these other files:
AV26_5000_0304.jpg
AV26_5000_0304.jgw
AV26_5000_0304.jpg.aux.xml
AV26_5000_0304.xml
Are these needed for geo-referencing? (or useful to keep?) Your workflow also puts these in your project folder, and I was curious if that was necessary.

Kia ora Quan,
That is correct. For example, I have "Project Number – Project Name MASTER" as the TBC folder name. For data management, I "try' to keep all relevant project data in there.
Inside "Project Number – Project Name MASTER" I have a folder called Public Data, and within that I have subfolders such as LiDAR, Aerial Photos, etc.
I'd downloaded some aerial photos for a job we are currently working on (higher resolution than Trimble Maps for this task) and, from my Downloads folder, simply dragged the JPGs into the Aerial Photos folder.
I then dragged them into TBC and it asked me to place them, rather than placing them automatically.
I looked at this thread and decided to go back to the Downloads folder and add the rest of the data that came with the download into the same Aerial Photos folder
I then tried again to drag and drop the images into TBC, and this time it worked as it always has. My assumption is that TBC could now see the JPW file path associated with the images and could place and position the JPGs correctly.
I hope that makes sense.
The only files that were dragged into TBC, was the JPGs, however they had to come from the same folder that contained the JGW files.
Please reach out if you need any more clarity.
Ngā mihi,
John

Hi John,
When you say "copy ALL the data that came from the public database (LINZ) into the project", do you mean that you copied the .jpg and .jgw files (and other files as well) into the TBC project folder (where imported files get copied to)?
So when you dragged the .jpg files into the TBC application, TBC was able to find the associated .jgw files, and also other files needed for georeferencing?
If the .jpg, .jgw and other files were in one folder (besides the TBC project folder), could you drag in a .jpg from there? Or did that not work, and it was required that you copied those other files into the project import folder?
(just trying to understand the original issue and your fix)
Thanks,

Kia ora!
This is an old thread but it helped me in TBC.
I had the same issue bringing in GeoJPEG from our public database.
I moved the JPEGS only into the TBC Project and I had the same issue, TBC makes me try to place them when I drag and drop just JPEGS.
What I needed to do was copy ALL the data that came from the public database (LINZ) into the project i'm working in (it can be from anywhere, I just like to keep the data together in the same project under public data)
TBC loves a file path, so now, when I just drag and drop the JPEGS into TBC, it georeferences them automatically, as it can read the JGW files that are in the folder.
Hope this helps anyone else having this issue.

Does TBC and ACCESS not support world files?
Does ACCESS not recognize JPG files at all?
If so how to I get the files to load in either program?
