Compute Distance Along Line (Using Two Point Method)

In Trimble Access, I am able to compute distance along line (using two point method) and offset using "Compute Distance"
Trimble Access Compute Distance

How can I achieve the same in TBC?
  • I prefer not to draw the line first, thus the two point method.
  • I also need to be able to specify which point is the starting point (for distance along the line)
Many thanks.

It's possible, but not like in Access. And I'm unsure if the following procedure is more convenient/faster than drawing an extra line.

For some reason I can't add any attachment to this thread, hence the poor quality of the GIF, I'd only saved it as MP4 first.

Assuming you have your points imported to TBC and visible in your Plan View, you can set your snaps to "point", and use the measure tool to get the distance you are looking for. It will even tell you both slope distance and horizontal distance.

I hope this helps. This seemed like the best solution to your question.

Thanks for taking your time to reply but that's not what I'm after. I'm after offset and distances along the line (line not drawn, defined by two points). I need to be able to specify which is the starting point of the line. The closest I can find is explore object but this tool is very cumbersome to use.

You're right. That does seem rather silly. If I can't do this easily and efficiently, this is pretty much fatal for the work I do. Looks like off to feature request I go.

I can do this easily with Magnet Office. Magnet does line first and then reference point.

Of course such a simple thing could also be done with a macro. If you have the licence to run them I can have a quick look tonight

Is it just the 2D Distance along and offset you're after, or elevation difference (plumb or perpendicular to 3D line) as well?
Does it need to be added as text or just be shown in the macro window?

For some reason "Add Attachment" is broken in this thread.
I had to open a new one to upload the quick macro I've created.
