DGN to TBC

Hello Trimble,

We are trying to import CAD design DGN files into TBC to help with QA/QC surveying for a large DOT project. We can import base mapping files but are unable to import infrastructure design sheets showing features like sidewalk, curb, gutter and paving.

We are trying to find out if we need to adjust a setting, if there are layer management issues or if this is possible at all.

You're help would be appreciated!

Not sure this is possible. Have you tried running an Import report (Run an Import Report)? Also, TBC 2026.1 was released about 24hrs ago so it's worth a try to move up to that? Also, see here from the TBC help portal: Import MicroStation Files (.dgn). Perhaps these design sheets are interpreted by TBC as an external reference, thereby ignoring them?

"*No Sheet Models & References: TBC has no facility to interpret DGN sheet layouts, viewports, or any reference attachments. The imported DGN won’t include any content that was only present as a referenced model or in a sheet. Therefore, plan/profile sheets assembled in OpenRoads (which typically show alignments, sidewalks, curbs in context via references) will not show those features in TBC unless they existed as actual drawn elements in the design model of the DGN.
