Hi everyone,

Anyone knows how to work with *.gem ( geoid elevation models) in TBC?

Thanks

Marc

TBC includes quite a lot of Geoid models. Which one are you trying to add?

Trimble uses the .GGF format. Official sources from geodetic departments are usually able to provide a file in that format.

If not, you could try the software mentioned in this forum https://gis.stackexchange.com/questions/259639/convert-geoid-file-types

Once you have the GGF file you can add it via the Coordinate System Manager.

After that you can define a coordinate system that uses this specific geoid and apply it to the TBC project.

If your data is CSV based you could have a look at this forum entry https://community.trimble.com/discussion/easiest-way-to-create-a-ggf-geoid-file-from-csv-tiff-or-bil

But it could be that the old GridFactory won't start anymore on Win10 or 11. Haven't tried it in ages.

Hi Marc,

I created the required GGF (Geoid Grid File/Format) using Geoid Grid Factory utility (v1.5). It worked/works for me also under Windows 10 Prof (F1 Help for it does not work,

so you have to know what is necessary to input in its input fields and how, because some input fields seem to be quite unclear). Nevertheless, it worked for me

even under Win10 and the (quasi)geoid models I created (one of them in 2020) work with TBC problem free.

It is very unfortunate and unaccountable that on one hand TBS offers the use of GGF and SGF (shift grid file) formats and on the other hand offers NO tools for creating them.

So try Geoid Grid Factory. However, you have to prepare the input TXT/ASCII data in correct format (instructions attached).

Hello Marc, I would like to ask did you manage to convert *.gem to *.ggf and if YES, will you be so kind to share with me how you managed to do it? Kind regards, Petr
