I have had various failures installing new versions of the software, and with the help of my dealers support team found the fix. (at least for my tower)
When I am installing now the first thing I do is download the latest version of the "office clean up utility" and run that, then do the online install for the software. For some reason the offline install almost always gives me trouble and/or errors leading to an abort similar to your situation.
The easiest way to get the lates version of the clean-up utility is make sure you are signed in to this page, then navigate to the "COMMUNITY HOME" tab at the top left of the screen then scroll down and click on downloads and select "Civil Construction & Infrastructure Solutions" this will open a new window. On the new page scroll all the way down to Trimble Business Center and expand the "Cleanup, Utilities, & More" option.
