Hi All,

I am getting this screen when I plug a USB in with TBC running.
This freezes my program and is a pain when trying to multitask when TBC is processing and I want to download some data.
Can this be turned off? or at least set to exclude USB?

Cheers,
Dan

I have not seen the device pane lock up TBC before. Normally it will appear when you plug the USB stick in, but if you don't need it, you can close it. I don't think there is any way of disable it from within TBC. If there was it would be in the Options menu, and I don't see anything there that looks like it's related to the device pane.
The device pane will be triggered by certain folders on your USB stick. For Spectra Origin is will be the Spectra Geospatial Data folder and for Trimble Access it will be the Trimble Data folder. If TBC does not see these folders then it will not open the device pane. If you either rename these folders or move then into another folder then the device pane should not open when you plug in the USB stick. I would probably make them sub-folders of another folder on your USB stick. That way you will still be able use them with Spectra Origin or Trimble Access.

Thanks for the response, following what you mentioned I took a look at my USB's and found none of them have those folders, I tested it with a new one and it still does the same even with a freshly formatted drive.

Any other suggestions ? I would like to refrain from re-installing if possible.

Cheers.

Sorry just looked at your screen snap again and noticed the Android icon. This means you are connected to a controller rather than a USB stick. While the controller is connected to the PC, go into USB preferences on the device (accessible from the Status bar at the top of the screen). From here you can specify what you want to use USB for (File Transfer, USB tethering, etc). If you set this to No data transfer then it should stop the Device Pane from popping up in TBC. Then if you do want to transfer some file to or from the decie, go back into USB preferences and set it to File transfer.

i just got a new msi computer and now this is a freezing problem for me. it never was before on a hp computer. james, i understand your solution, but 100 percent of the time i want to do file transfers from the data collector, so i want to have that as the default. this should not cause a freeze on tbc, but it does. i am on tbc 2023, has this been resolved on newer versions, as this seems to be the device manager issue, can there be a patch for it. i am using tsc5 i think 2024. real pain and causing loss of work. just now i was extracting linework and had the data collector on the computer from data download and charging overnight, just lost an hour of extracting work because i have to force close tbc to get out of this and of course tbc has no auto save. real annoying.

mine looks like this, and i just tried opening a second instance of tbc and it is frozen from the start. if i unplug the data collector tbc usually goes into a loop, don't remember the warning, something about the data collector getting unplugged, but i can not save or do anything in between the pop ups.

Hi Ian

I don't really use USB download much these days as I tend to use Trimble Connect for data transfer. However I have just tested it and provided I set TSC5 to file transfer after plugging in the USB cable, I can connect in TBC via the Device Pane. I am using TBC 2025.20 and TA 2025.11 and I am not aware of any connection issues with older versions. If you are having issues with lockups, then I probably wouldn't leave the TSC5 connected via USB to your PC. If you need to charge the TSC5 then you are probably better off using the proper charger.

HI @ian bissonnette, I solved this by first changing the highlighted to manual. My colleague couldn't get it to work so he ended up uninstalling "Office Synchronizer" all together.

Hope that helps!
