are these not just the most recent opened files? forcing your team to use the open command for a couple weeks should do it. i tend to almost always use the open command just to double check that i m getting the file i really need as we often have multiple similar names in many directories.
not the solution you want but a work around.
actually as i think about it. there must be a cache where these are stored because a fresh instal obviously does not have them. hopefully the people that go a bit deeper than me can tell you.
