Turning a surface to a point cloud

I have a project where I was given a surface for the existing condition.  However, the surface was created from a very detailed point cloud, much denser than I need for this project.  So I need to create a new surface that is not so detailed to keep the project file size to a more manageable size.   Can I take a surface to a point cloud that I can then resample?   Or is there a different method I should be looking at?

Michael - You should delete the surface created from the dense point cloud.  You can do this in the Project Explorer/Surfaces Tab.  Right-click and delete.  Then spatially sample the point cloud, labeling it clearly, and create your surface again from the sampled region.  As far as I know, if you resample after the surface is already created, the surface doesn't update.  You must resample first.

Hi Michael

You can use the Advance Filtering command as well, this will allow you more control on how TBC filters the point cloud for you and ensure that in areas where there is height changes TBC will leave more points compared to flat, even aeras.

Hi Michael,

If i understand your question correctly there is a command in TBC call "Surface to Pts" which will do what you are looking for.

Thanks Andrew!  Yes, I just installed the latest version and found that under the Unlicensed tab.
